Unsung heroes Lucy Hamid and Sudhanshu Mardikar receive South Gloucestershire Council Community Awards

Patchway Town Council is delighted that Lucy Hamid from Coniston Community Centre has received a Community Award to recognise the selfless and valuable contributions she has made for the people of this community as an unpaid volunteer.

The award reflects the remarkable and extraordinary level of work and commitment, time and care Lucy has given over many years in support of local residents, especially at Coniston Community Centre. Lucy’s dedication has made a meaningful and lasting difference to Patchway with her efforts both valued and deeply appreciated by the community.

In particular, the council wishes to recognise Lucy’s work on the Summer Holiday play schemes and initiator for the installation of new play areas.

Lucy also founded the Patchway Conservation Group in 1990 along with the Patchway Environmental Forum where the community has worked together to improve the environment. Lucy is also the Founder of the Patchway Local History Group and the Patchway & Bradley Stoke Community Development Project, both of which are now supported by Southern Brooks Community Partnerships and the Coniston Community Centre and continue to strengthen community connections across Patchway.

Patchway resident Sudhanshu Mardikar is also recognised through the Community Awards.

Mayor of Patchway Cllr Dayley Lawrence said, ’Congratulations to Lucy and Sudhanshu for receiving these hugely deserved Community Awards. I, and many of my colleagues on the Council have known Lucy for many years and her total dedication to Patchway is fantastic. So well-deserved to receive this recognition’.
