At the full meeting of Patchway Town Council on 17th June 2025, Patchway Town Council resolved to withdraw from the land purchase for the purpose of extending Almondsbury cemetery in future years.
The decision to withdraw from the joint land purchase with Almondsbury Parish Council was not taken lightly and followed a review into the potential costs of the future development; and the affordability of progressing further for Patchway Town Council and its residents.
Patchway Town Council and Almondsbury Parish Council are a partnership on the ownership and management of the existing Almondsbury Cemetery through the Almondsbury Joint Burial Committee (AJBC).
The decision to withdraw from the land purchase and subsequent development of the extension site has no bearing on the existing cemetery site which remains a joint partnership between Patchway Town Council and Almondsbury Parish Council managed through the AJBC. Residents of Patchway will continue to benefit from the in-parish rates on the existing site.
The Council will share further details of the new extension to the cemetery and any potential impact on residents in due course as confirmed and accurate information becomes available.
