Young People Vote for Favourite Book
At the Concorde Book Awards, the young people of South Gloucestershire voted ‘Ghostcloud’ by Michael Mann as their winner. This is the welcome return of the awards after they paused during the Covid-19 pandemic, last held in 2020. As before, this year’s winner was chosen after an exciting district-wide reading challenge in which young people from groups across the district read their way through a shortlist of titles.

Council tax Direct Debit Change
From this April, the date for some direct debit council tax payments will change. Those currently taken on the 12th of the month will change to the 4th, and those taken on the 20th will change to the 25th. Information is on the annual council tax bill which is currently being delivered. These changes will happen automatically. If you wish to switch your date, to either the 4th or 25th, you can amend online.

M4 Overbridge Update
There will be new public transport options from 7 April to go round the current Badminton Road M4 overbridge closure. The Y6 Bristol to Chipping Sodbury, First Bus service, is changing the timetable to include St Saviour’s Church area of Coalpit Heath on every journey. In addition, from 7 April you can pre-book the WESTLink on demand bus service by phone 0117 457 8561 or via the app.

Recycling Centres Survey
Don't forget to take part in our survey about the booking system being introduced for the Sort It recycling centres. The new system will replace the vehicle registration scheme and help to reduce queues at busy times as well as ensuring the council is complying with new rules for DIY waste.

This Easter, we are running Bikeability courses at Bradley Stoke School. You can learn to ride, and improve on cycling skills including on road training. All courses are led by our qualified team and cost £5.

Bank Holiday preparation
Make sure you order and collect your repeat prescriptions before the Easter bank holiday long weekend (29 March to 1 April). GPs and many pharmacies close for the bank holidays so it’s important to make sure you have enough medication to last. You can order your prescription on the NHS App or via your GP.

Are you registered to vote?
The Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election is set for Thursday 2 May. The PCC oversees your local police force and ensures they are prioritising what matters to you. Make sure you are registered to vote and if you plan to vote in person that you have eligible Voter ID.

Community Engagement Forums postponed
Due to the pre-election period, leading up to the Police and Crime Commissioner election, all Community Engagement Forum (CEF) meetings are postponed until after 2 May. The CEF area meetings that will be postponed are: Bitton, Oldland, North Common and Siston; Kingswood and Cotswold Edge; and Yate Area. We will look to re-schedule as soon as possible after the election.
