Eric Gordon – Honorary Freeman of Patchway

At the Full Meeting of Patchway Town Council on 21^st July 2026, Eric Gordon was made an Honorary Freeman of Patchway for over 30 years of dedication and service to the Patchway community.

Eric’s service as a Councillor has been nothing short of remarkable. From 3^rd October 1993 until 3^rd September 2025, Eric devoted 31 years and 11 months to serving his community. An extraordinary achievement and a testament to Eric’s unwavering dedication.

Eric’s contribution extends far beyond the council chamber. As a Justice of the Peace, he served for many years as a magistrate on the Youth Court, helping to guide young people at critical moments in their lives. He also served on the antisocial behaviour committee with Stand Against Racism & Inequality (SARI) and other local organisations, and before various committees were merged, he chaired the Planning Committee. Alongside this, he gave his time as a school governor at both Patchway Community School and Coniston Primary School.

However what says the most about Eric is not the titles he has held, but the kindness he has shown. Time and again, he has gone out of his way to help local residents, whether tending gardens, driving people to hospital or GP appointments, or simply being there when someone needed a helping hand. That generosity has made a lasting difference to so many lives.

Cllr Keith Walker shared that meeting Eric changed everything for him following his relocation from the Midlands. Eric encouraged Keith to become involved in the Patchway community and he joined Patchway Town Council.

Eric has a wonderful ability to recognise potential in others, encourage them, and inspire them to get involved. His community spirit has always shone through, and he never hesitates to go the extra mile.

The people of Patchway hold Eric in the highest regard and share a deep appreciation for everything he has done over so many years. His service, compassion and leadership have left an enduring legacy that will benefit our community for generations to come.
