Runners flock to Patchway for new Brabazon Half Marathon and 10k event

500 runners from across the area and further afield took part in the brand new Brabazon Half Marathon and 10k event at Norman Scott Park, Patchway on Sunday 7th April.

The event organised by local residents Scott Panschuk of YPB Events and Andy Maxted of Tri-Max Events attracted runners from as far afield as Cheltenham, Builth Wells, Cardiff and Newbury. Runners competed in 10k and Half Marathon distances with the Start and Finish lines in Scott Park.

The event raised funds for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, and was supported by local partners including Patchway Town Council, Snack Attacks in the Park, Little Love Bakes, Mini Concerts and Patchway Sports & Social Club.

The fully stewarded route took runners from a loud Start line in Scott Park where the Mayor of Patchway, Cllr Dayley Lawrence set off the runners in front of a large crowd of supporters and local residents. They headed up Coniston Road towards the Aztec West Lakes, round quieter lanes and residential areas of Bradley Stoke including Willow Brook Nature Reserve, and across The Common before heading back into Patchway for a full circuit of Norman Scott Park before the finish line in front of the new Pavilion. The Half Marathon runners completed the circuit twice.

As the weather held on a blustery day, runners, supporters and onlookers gathered together before, during and after the race to revel in the unique and energetic atmosphere this new event brought to Patchway.

Breakfast rolls and drinks were provided by Snack Attacks in the Park, home made cakes from Little Loves Bakes, fantastic music from Mini Concerts and The Sundaes, and the option of a well-earned Sunday Lunch at the Patchway Sports & Social Club.

Mayor of Patchway, Cllr Dayley Lawrence said, ‘What a brilliant new event the Brabazon 10k and Half Marathon is for Patchway – and our neighbouring towns. Scott Park was electric across the morning and I was delighted to have started the two races and handed every participant a medal as they triumphantly returned!’.

Patchway Town Council will be liaising with the organisers on the April 2025 date so time to start thinking about a new pair of trainers.
