Patrick Cottrell | Honorary Freeman of Patchway

Patrick Cottrell was made an Honorary Freeman of Patchway on 28^th July 2025 at a ceremony hosted at Callicroft House with family, friends, Councillors and Council staff. Patrick, a former Councillor for 37 years at Patchway Town Council sadly passed away on 5^th February 2025, was bestowed this honour for his dedication and service to the town.

Full presentation speech delivered by Mayor of Patchway, Cllr Dayley Lawrence:

Thank you for all being here today and in particular I’d like to extend a heartfelt welcome to Patrick’s family, some of whom have travelled quite a distance to be with us this evening.

Tonight is for us all to pay tribute to a remarkable man — a dedicated public servant, a true community leader, and a beloved friend — former Town Councillor, Patrick Cottrell.

Patrick served on Patchway Town Council between the years of 1987 - 2024 and in total, he served 37 years as a holder of public office.

Patrick was on the Town Council when many key projects around the Town were carried out such as building Coniston Community Centre, sporting redevelopments at Norman Scott Park and key infrastructure redevelopments at Patchway Community Centre.

Patrick was enshrined in our Patchway community, and he used his services as a dedicated Town Councillor to fight causes close to his heart.

Patrick would often pass on his knowledge and expertise to fellow Councillors and members of staff on the Town Council.

We are here to honour Patrick, a man who gave so much of himself to this town.  His service wasn’t just a duty; it was a passion.  He believed in building a stronger community and worked tirelessly to make that vision a reality.  The town mattered deeply to him.

Thank you, Patrick, for everything, we will never forget you.

On behalf of the Council, I am pleased to present Margaret with a Certificate and a Bristol Blue Glass paperweight as a token of the Town Council’s appreciation for Patrick’s service to Patchway.
