Patchway sports and community organisations update | January 2026

Patchway’s sports clubs and community organisations reported more exciting updates at the Council’s Parks, Open Spaces, Transport & Planning Committee Meeting on 13th January 2026.

Bristol Jets BMX Club reported that The Jets closed out a fantastic 2025 with a Christmas gate evening featuring the Grinch and Santa Claus riding the track with club members who had decorated their bikes and themselves with tinsel, fairy lights and other fabulous designs.

The Jets hosted two winter races as part of a series with Burnham and Cardiff BMX clubs, with over 100 people in attendance at each. The final races take place at these clubs over the next couple of months and hope to see quite a few Jets stand on the podium at the final race of this series.

Throughout 2025 the Club have run regular weekly coaching sessions for beginners, intermediate and expert riders with a growth in rider numbers and more young people enjoying the sport.

2026 is going to be another exciting year for the club who will be hosting the Bristol leg of the South West Regional Racing on Sunday 19th July. There are many riders taking part in this series between March and July travelling to different tracks around the South West. Many of these are young riders who started last year with training and some club racing and are now ready to branch out to more advanced level racing.

Many of the more experienced riders will be taking part in the National Series that starts in April. Riders race on tracks around the UK in a bid to qualify for the World Championships in 2027.

Several riders will also be attending European races this season including Tiel in the Netherlands, Verona in Italy and the South of France for the European Championships in June. The Club is thrilled that some riders who made top spots in the National series in 2025 have qualified for the World Championships in Brisbane Australia this July and will be jetting off to the other side of the world to show them what Bristol Jets can do.

Pretoria Road Allotment Society reported completion of the new access path with the help of an ASDA Community grant. And the kitchen has been redecorated by Morgan Sindall Construction who provide labour and materials. A big thank you to Georgie Davies social value advisor in coordination.

The Society have started a Tuesday garden after school club with Coniston Primary School using the WECA Pollinator Project funded Polytunnel and no dig beds. At present a group of 15 children and school helpers attend after school.

The Club are pleased with all the squads with special mention to both U13 Girls squads who are adapting both to new home ground and to the new format of 11v11 games.

Both U7 squads are going went well with majority of ' wins' for both squads , while U15 are again leading the way in league and a Cup semi final to navigate. The Senior Women Team who have had back to back promotions are placed mid table in Division 2 and very much looking forward to using the new Hangar61 building in the near future following home games.
