On 5th July 2025, Patchway went Supersonic as our community flocked to Norman Scott Park for our annual free community Festival that drew in a large crowd of residents and visitors throughout the day.
It was breezy though no rain meant a dry field for the party to really get going from 12pm with a packed day of live music and entertainment, Croles Funfair, market traders, local organisations, fantastic food and drinks, and a cheeky nod towards the Oasis party taking place just across the Severn in Cardiff.
The day was brilliantly compered by local comedienne and actor Hannah Clift who got the crowds of all ages engaged and amused including the ‘Best Dressed Dad’ and ‘Best Dressed Mum’ competitions that got quite heated.
The opening act were the vibrant and simply awesome Waca Dance Crew from Patchway Community School who wowed the crowd with their stunning dance act.
‘Let’s Hear it for the Girls’ then took over with a belter of 80s classics which got the feet tapping on the field and in the marquees. The ‘Joie de Vivre’ burlesque dance group made up of ladies from across Patchway then brought a touch of Paris to Patchway.
The Mayor of Patchway, Cllr Dayley Lawrence thanked the crowd and kept the atmosphere building as he jumped onto the stage.
The annual ‘Rising Stars’ slot from Mini Concerts is an important opportunity for new singing acts to strut their stuff in front of a live audience and Scott Park was treated to a variety of powerful voices included the stonking ‘Blues Brothers Suited & Rebooted’ act on their first public airing.
The second local burlesque act of the afternoon saw local duo ‘Candy Storm & Miss Red’ bring further Parisien atmosphere to the Park.
‘Let’s Hear It for the Girls’ then launched into a powerful set of 90s anthems that geared us towards the Festival headline act of the Low Flying Pigeons who delivered a rock & roll conclusion with their Oasis classics interspersed with other Britpop belters. Who needed to be in Cardiff at this point.
Residents also visited the community stalls and local craft vendors which included china plate smashing from 2nd Patchway Scouts, the mobile FACE youth engagement unit, and Pretoria Road Allotments who led tours of the new Pollinator Project.
Avon Fire & Rescue brought a fire appliance onto the field providing a great photo opportunity for all – including the Mayor of Patchway.
Croles Funfair was buzzing with the classic Waltzer a popular memory for many and a new experience for some. And the Dodgems kept the bad driving inside Scott Park, and even the Mayor, Town Clerk and Head of Estates Team were spotted belting around the track.
Taste buds could enjoy Jamaican cooking from ‘Food with Sophie’, Indian cuisine from ‘Little India’, fresh pizzas from ‘La Grotta Pizza Truck’, plus burgers, donuts and a carvery. The Booze Box horsebox bar kept the adults hydrated.
The day could not have happened without the magnificent volunteer support of town councillors, plus the Council staff team who created and delivered the day.
Mayor of Patchway, Cllr Dayley Lawrence said, ’Patchway – you really are Supersonic. I look forward to this free event from the Council every year as you support it so well by coming to the Park and having fun all day. I had a brilliant time meeting so many of you, and I cannot wait to see you all again in 2026’.
Thank you Patchway. You rocked again. Let’s see what we can bring to you in 2026.
