It is with great sadness that the Mayor, Council members and staff of Patchway Town Council, acknowledge the passing of Marge Brown, a much-loved resident whose generosity, kindness and tireless commitment to others made a lasting impact on our community.
Marge gave so much of herself to Patchway over many, many years. Alongside her son Steve, she was a familiar and valued presence, supporting the community larder with food donations, contributing Easter eggs to the Mayor’s Easter Egg Wall appeal, the many food hampers at Christmas time, and donating handmade craft items that brought joy to so many.
Marge generously gave her time volunteering at the local Coniston caf?, offering friendship, encouragement, and even leading exercise activities that helped bring people together.
Marge’s caring nature extended well beyond her immediate community. Through the sale of her homemade jams, she raised several hundreds of pounds for St Peter’s Hospice — a truly admirable achievement and a reflection of her deep compassion for others.
In June 2025, Patchway Town Council nominated Marge to be recognised for all the community efforts she had contributed to over the years. The ‘Inspirational Elders’ Exhibition led by South Gloucestershire Council agreed to the nomination and Marge’s efforts were reflected in the Age Without Limits event and showcased Marge’s dedication and compassion within the community she thrived in.
Marge was the embodiment of community spirit: selfless, kind-hearted, and quietly devoted to helping those around her. Her contribution to Patchway cannot be measured simply by the hours she gave or the funds she raised, but by the warmth, generosity, and positivity she shared so freely. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
On behalf of the Mayor, Council members, and staff of Patchway Town Council, we extend our sincere condolences to Steve, Robert, Lisa and Karen, her family, friends, and everyone whose lives were touched by Marge. The Council is deeply grateful for all she gave to our town, and her legacy of kindness will live on within the Patchway community.
The family would like to invite everyone who knew Marge to join them and celebrate their mum, ‘Marvellous Marge Brown’ at the Coniston Community Centre, 1.30pm on Friday 6th March 2026. No formal mourning wear, come as you are.
